Anxiety Sucks

Let’s just get that out of the way. Anxiety totally sucks. It can make your heart race, mess with your stomach, and turn normal stuff—like going to school—into a major challenge. And here’s the kicker: sometimes anxiety can even cause real physical problems. Ever had your stomach hurt so bad that it’s hard to tell if it’s just nerves or something more? That could be anxiety messing with your system. It’s not just in your head.

But, hey, you’re not alone. Anxiety is like that uninvited guest who crashes the party in your brain and refuses to leave. Lots of people, especially teens, deal with it. And though it feels super intense, the good news is, there are ways to manage it. Once you figure out how to handle anxiety, it doesn’t feel so overwhelming—and you start taking back control.

What Causes Anxiety?
Everyone has different anxiety triggers, but here are some common ones that can cause your brain to go into panic mode:

  • School Stress: Big projects, upcoming tests, and even regular class stuff can sometimes feel like too much.
  • Social Pressure: Being around groups, having to talk in front of class, or just trying to fit in can make anxiety skyrocket.
  • Everyday Challenges: Little things, like needing to do stuff you’d rather avoid—like using the public washroom, eating in front of people, or asking questions in class—can feel like way bigger deals when anxiety shows up.
  • Friendship Drama: Arguments with friends, feeling left out, or trying to make new friends can stir up major anxiety.
  • Perfectionism: That voice in your head that says you need to be perfect at everything (hint: you don’t) can keep anxiety on full blast.

Now that you know what can trigger anxiety, did you realize it can mess with your body, too? In the next post, we’ll break down how anxiety shows up physically—like why your stomach twists into knots or why you get that weird throat tickle.
